THE UNION There is the need for specialization in the tourism industry in Ghana, for increased efficiency in order to keep pace with global trends.Even though tourism is now, the 3rd leading foreign exchange earner for Ghana,we are still unknown as tourist destination in the global market.The need to improve standard locally,promote Ghana aggressively and make Ghana well known destination is crucial.It is upon this background that in November 2000,a team of tour operators got together to form the Union. Mission Statement
To strive for professionalism and integrity, and to ensure the growth and recognition
of the union in the tourism industry for the benefit of all its members. Secretariat The Unions secretariat
is located at Coconut Grove Regency Hotel,North Ridge Membership Membership is open to all registered tour operators and ground handlers in Ghana.
Domestic Tourism The Tour Operators Union of Ghana, as part of its effort aimed at creating and sustaining public awareness for Domestic Tourism in Ghana, has instituted a nationwide Essay Competition on Domestic Tourism for 1st cycle schools. The children are selected for awards including tours and excursions outside their regions,scholarships and other handsome prizes. The 3rd domestic Tourism Programme will be launched in September 2003.It will focus on the first cycle schools in Volta Region. Educational Programmes for members Tougha organized

The Ashanti Regional Chapter was inaugrated in August 2001 Donation to conflict victims The Union was touched by the plight of victims of the conflict in Bawku which claimed several lives and property and left several injured.Members donated clothing and other personal effects to the victims. Support for ministry of tourism The Union, a few weeks after its inauguration,raised an amount of $1,500 to support the Ministry of Tourism for its marketing activities. |
